The Seating Project
"Floor Chair"
Why floor-sitting culture is prevalent in Korea?

Originally, Floor culture is older than sitting on a chair. There historically was more time with no chairs than there was no furniture. In the 21st century, Korea and Japan are representative of the barefoot culture in households. Even if other countries are sitting down on the floor, they use carpets and rugs. East Asia, as opposed to Korea and Japan, China was exceptionally influenced by Mongolians and Manchus and changed from floor-sitting culture to sitting on a chair. The Japanese sitting style has a different aspect from the Korean sitting style.
